Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the managed platform. For deeper setup guides, head to the docs.

What is BuddyMQ?

A managed platform to run isolated MQTT broker instances with TLS, usage visibility, and lifecycle operations through a web console.

Is this the same as the open-source broker?

BuddyMQ is built on the open-source BuddyMQ Broker. The managed service adds hosted provisioning, operations, and billing so you can run brokers without managing infrastructure.

Which MQTT version is supported?

BuddyMQ supports the broker protocol set available in the current release. Broader protocol support is planned.

How does billing work?

Billing is usage-based per broker instance. Starter invoices meter instance-hours, bandwidth, and messages per instance with no shared pool across instances. Optional usage caps can pause only the capped instance.

What does "Starting at EUR 6/month" mean?

It is the runtime baseline for one always-on instance over a full month (720 instance-hours). Bandwidth and message usage are billed separately on top of that baseline.

What exactly is metered in Starter?

Three dimensions are metered per instance: instance-hours, bandwidth in GiB, and messages (per million). Your monthly total is the sum of those three subtotals.

Are taxes included in the displayed prices?

No. Prices on the site and calculator are shown before VAT.

Are limits and invoices shared across instances?

No. Each broker instance has independent usage, limits, and invoice totals.

What happens when a usage cap is reached?

If you enable usage caps, only the instance that reaches its configured cap is paused. Other instances continue normally.
